To recognize the difference between Equivalence, Homologation, and Validation of educational titles, it is necessary to learn that the equivalence of a foreign university degree is homologated, validated, or requested to the corresponding Spanish ones, depending on the career that accredits the title itself.
Being clear about the above, you only need to know if the degree in your possession is among the List of regulated professions in Spain that we offer you below:
If the interested party wishes to practice his profession in Spain and his degree is on this list (with the exception of the titles of Lawyer, Court Attorney, Architect and General Health Psychologist, which are regulated professions but their procedure is more complex and we will explain it later), the application for the HOMOLOGATION to the Spanish authorizing title always proceeds.
The homologation of a foreign title to a Spanish title that allows access to a regulated profession, will entail the possibility of exercising the regulated profession in question under the same conditions as the holders of the Spanish titles that qualify for such exercise.
The exercise of a regulated profession (see list) can only be accessed through Homologation.
Equivalence is the recognition of a degree (or a set of studies passed by the interested party) so that it has the same academic and/or professional effects as another, although said recognition does not entitle the interested party to obtain the title with which they are awarded. establish equivalence. The equivalences specifically recognized in legal provisions do not need individual resolution, since the regulations themselves determine the equivalence of their effects.
The EQUIVALENCE to the degree and official university academic level of Degree or Master, for its part, will proceed in the following cases:
The validation is to confirm that a certain training has been passed by the interested party, giving academic validity to the training provided by the latter and always with the purpose of continuing studies in the Spanish educational system, thus avoiding re-studying the subjects subject to said validation. .
Validation of subjects is a procedure that is explicitly applied to the following qualifications:
Through this procedure you can request the homologation of titles or the validation of non-university studies obtained abroad .
The homologation of titles, diplomas or foreign studies of non-university education supposes the declaration of equivalence with the titles of the current Spanish educational system.
Students from foreign educational systems who wish to enroll in any of the courses of Primary Education or Compulsory Secondary Education must not carry out any process of validation of studies.
Nor will validation proceed to carry out studies at any level, course or modality of the Spanish educational system for which access is not a prerequisite to obtaining the Graduate title in Compulsory Secondary Education.
The titles or studies must meet the following requirements for their homologation or validation:
The studies carried out in foreign educational systems by the students coming from the Spanish educational system will be subject to homologation to the Spanish title of Graduate in Compulsory Secondary Education or to that of Bachelor, provided that they have passed as many correlative and complete courses as are pending to finish the Education Compulsory Secondary or Baccalaureate, respectively.
The homologation or validation of the following titles or studies will not proceed:
Studies completed in foreign centers located in Spain outside the provisions of the regulations that regulate the establishment and authorization of such educational centers (Royal Decree 806/1993, of May 28 External link).
Degrees issued by foreign institutions or organizations that endorse studies carried out in Spanish centers that do not lead to degrees with official academic validity.
Titles, diplomas, certificates or studies completed in public or private organizations or institutions that do not constitute academic degrees or are part of the educational system of the foreign country in question.
